Introduction to Photography
This week, APP Introduction to Photography students continued to work on their photographic series, and began to prepare for the upcoming exhibition in May. Students brought some of their favorite images from the year into class for feedback. During a class activity, everyone was given a stack of Post-its and asked to write both a compliment and an impression of every image brought into class. The goal is for each student to narrow their selection down to five images, which will be presented to the juror of the exhibition for further selection. It was wonderful to see everyone’s work and how it has evolved over the course of the year!
This week, you will continue to work on your series. But we all are focusing on what it is that we want to say to the public. What messages do you want your photos to convey? Which assignments have been your favorite this year? Which techniques have you really enjoyed learning and experimenting with? These answers can help you figure out what is is that you are interested in. Everyone has many interests, but I’m sure as you look back and reflect on this year’s work, you will see that some approaches, assignments, and techniques influenced you more than others.
Remember: We cannot control how others interpret our images, but we can use all the techniques we’ve learned to help us communicate important messages and feelings with others.
